I hadn’t heard anything until I put the show on this morning and he was gone. I expected to hear he was on assignment or vacation.
Jeff’s presentation and his stories were top notch. I’m very disappointed that he has left. I hope he finds a better position and he flourishes.
CBS has consistently required their newspeople to insert descriptive adjectives into their presentation of the news in an effort to insert political viewpoints that don’t belong in the news. I don’t think Jeff Glor did enough of this to suit the exec level. I feel his reports where more ‘just the facts, ma’am”, which, in addition to a high salary, led to him being chosen in the layoffs.
I’ve always liked his reporting as personal, descriptive and effective. Having been through through downsizing and layoffs multiple times during my career, I can attest to the pain of not being recognized as valuable, even when your results speak otherwise, and can relate to the difficulties in starting anew. Jeff Glor personifies a superbly able, objective and unbiased journalist who prioritizes fairness and balance without the sensationalized hokey poke characterized and promoted by virtually all current conventional and cable networks. The fact that such a professional and talented journalist was released reflects the silly and self-serving values of such networks while chasing ratings, otherwise elevating stupid-opinionated news “personalities” and frantically publicizing a range of political and other types who threaten the foundation of our so-called society. Hopefully, the network retains CBS Saturday Morning’s Michelle Miller and national correspondent Errol Barnett, both excellent journalists.
